FAQ: Can this Stainless steel Centrifugal Pump run dry?

Absolutely not! Centrifugal pumps can sustain damage even after short periods of dry running.

Dry running can destroy the mechanical seal, leading to pump leaks, and it may even cause the motor to burn out. Our recommendation is to ensure that the pump always has a flooded suction or that the pump casing and inlet pipe are consistently filled with water. One way to achieve this is by installing a check valve on the inlet line to prevent water from escaping when the pump is inactive. Additionally, fitting a dry running protection device can help; it will automatically shut off the pump if it detects a lack of fluid entering the pump.
